POSITION SUMMARY
Our client needs a Legal and Regulatory Specialist who can provide legal advice to management and interpret legal information.  The Legal and Regulatory Specialist is directly responsible for drafting, editing and interpreting commercial agreements pertaining to power sale/purchase, distribution franchise and the like, handling issues relating to electricity laws and regulations. This role leads to the full compliance with legal and statutory requirements that will prevent breach of contractual terms both within the organization and external stakeholders.
POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES
o Providing counsel on Nigerian law to all areas of the company.
o Assuring the business’ compliance with all statutory legal requirements.
o Advising on minimizing risks, liabilities and legal exposure taken by the business.
o Ensuring that the legal documents and other contractual documents are effectively drafted, reviewed, interpreted, and vetted.
o Managing external legal resources where required.
o Representing the Company in ensuring the efficient handling resolution of all negotiations and disputes.
o Supervising, researching and analyzing implication of case law, legislation, and regulatory matters that affect the company.
o Providing support to CLRO on Nigerian law and regulatory issues.
o Representing the Company in all types of actions involving the company.
o Coordinating litigation handled by external legal resources where required.
o Handling all energy theft related actions
o Coordinating / handling all NERC / license
o Drafting legal documents as required
o Provide overall legal opinion on all matters relating to PHED & Energy
o Oversee Contracts management
o Provide needed support to litigation and regulatory reporting needs
o Oversee Corp Issues

QUALIFICATIONS (EXPERIENCE, KNOWLEDGE & SKILLS)
Qualification:    Good first degree in Law (LLB, BL) and advanced legal degree required such as LLM or MBA will be an added advantage.   
Experience:      5 -10 years legal experience ideally in a leading organisation, with a proven track record in contract negotiation and drafting. For Rate case, must have knowledge of economics with experience of tariff (Telecom or Power Sector) 
Competence:    Must be an advocate in the court of law of Nigeria; Demonstrate knowledge of, and experience with laws dealing with government and/or commercial contract administration, particularly contract negotiation, preparation and administration. Rate Case needs to have good analytical skills and understanding of modeling and tariff structure.
